Commissioner's Corner
A Post For All Scouters
Commissioner’s College
6/27/16

Hello Scouters, recently, a group of scouters from the Daniel Boone Council attended an area commissioner’s college with 8 other councils from the southeast. It was held in Black Mountain at the Ridgecrest convention center. We had a great turnout of 15, comprised of both current commissioners and non-commissioners.

The college is a great way for new and experienced commissioners, as well as scouters who are curious about what a commissioner’s role is, to learn relevant skills for any adult scouter working with a pack, troop, or crew. Topics such as recruiting, counseling, unit finances and unit re-charter were taught by experienced scouters who have many years of scouting experience in various leadership roles.

Consider joining us next year for either a day or the whole weekend.  It provides an opportunity to learn new leadership skills as well as network. The next commissioner’s college will be in early June 2017. We will be advertising in the long rifle as the date gets closer. Additionally, we will have some training for new commissioners at the next university of scouting.

If you know of someone in the Daniel Boone council who would make a good commissioner please email me at my address below. Each of our districts is in need of scouters who would like to stay connected with scouting and would like to work with units to help them succeed.

Yours in Scouting,
